# Share of voice

> How much of the brand talk in AI answers is about you, and how it differs from visibility.

> Of all the brand mentions in those answers, the share that were you. When an answer names five brands, each gets a fifth of it.

Share of voice sits beside visibility on Overview. It is counted over the same answers, in the same scope, and carries the same `n`, with a `±` range of its own.

## How it differs from visibility

The two answer different questions:

* **Visibility** asks: were you in the answer at all?
* **Share of voice** asks: of every brand the answers named, how much of that was you?

Every brand named takes a slice, so the shares of all the brands named add up to 100%. That is why share of voice is usually lower than visibility: an answer that names you alongside several others gives you full credit for visibility and only a slice of the voice.

## Reading the two together

| What you see | What it usually means |
| - | - |
| Both rise | You are named in more answers and take a bigger part of them. |
| Visibility holds, share of voice falls | You are still named, but more brands are crowding into the same answers. |
| Visibility holds, share of voice rises | You are named as often, but the answers name fewer brands, so you have more of each one. |

A sudden change in how many brands the answers name moves everyone's share at once, without anyone gaining ground. When an engine does that, the day is labelled on your charts: see [Drift labels](https://docs.citino.ai/guides/drift-labels.md).

## Who else is named

Your share of voice is on Overview. To see who takes the rest, open the Brands screen: it ranks every brand named in your answers by visibility, with your own brand highlighted.
