# Visibility

> The share of AI answers that named your brand, and how to read it.

> Of all the answers we collected, the share that named you. 40% means you were named in 4 of every 10 answers.

Visibility is the first number on Overview and the one the Brands league is ranked by. It answers the simplest question: when a buyer asks, are you in the answer?

## How it is counted

We take every answer in your scope and count the ones that name you.

* **An answer names you** when it mentions your brand, under its name or any other name you have added in Project settings, as one of the options a buyer could choose.
* **Each answer counts once**, however many times it names you.
* **Your scope** is your questions that name no brand, in the segments you have claimed, over the window you picked, on the default engines switched on for the project. The scope line at the top of the screen says exactly which. See [Scope and segments](https://docs.citino.ai/guides/scope-and-segments.md).

Like every number in Citino, it carries `n`, the answers it is based on, and a `±` range. See [The ± band and n](https://docs.citino.ai/guides/bands-and-sample-size.md).

## Two ways to show nothing

They look alike and mean opposite things.

| You see | It means |
| - | - |
| `—` with "needs one full run" | There are no answers in scope yet. Nothing has been measured, so there is no number. |
| `0% · not named` | There are answers, and none of them named you. That is a finding, not an error: the answers are being written without you. |

## On each engine

> Your visibility on each AI engine separately. Engines read different websites, so you can be strong on one and missing from another.

Overview shows it in the **Your visibility by model** panel. A gap on one engine usually points to the websites that engine reads; Sources shows which.

## For a single question

> The share of answers to this question that named you, and how many answers that is. A single question has no ± range; ranges are worked out across many questions.

Prompts and Prompt detail show visibility per question. On Prompts, a question's visibility carries a low-sample badge until it has 15 answers behind it. The number is still shown; the badge is a cue to read it as early.

## Over time

> Your visibility and your competitors’, day by day, so you can see who is gaining ground and who is losing it.

On Overview's **Visibility over time**, longer windows draw each line as the week ending that day, so one day's swing does not move it; the faint lines are each day on its own. A gap in a line is a day with no run, never a zero.

## What moves it

The engines decide whom to name largely from the websites they read while answering: review sites, lists, directories, communities, publications and your own pages. Getting listed on the sites they read most is the most direct way to be named more often.

* **Sources** shows which sites the engines read, and whether you are listed on each.
* **Gaps** turns the questions you are losing into things worth doing, ranked by how much each should move your visibility.
* **Experiments** measures whether a change you published worked.

## Reading a change

A change in visibility is shown in percentage points against the previous window of the same length. If it is smaller than the `±` range it is shown muted as "within noise", because it could be chance. See [Within noise](https://docs.citino.ai/guides/within-noise.md).
