When an answer names you, where you appear in its list on average. 1 means you were named first, so lower is better.
Being named is the first step; being named first is worth more. Position tells you which of the two you have.

How it is counted

  • Only answers that name you count. An answer that leaves you out has no position for you, so it is not counted here. It shows up in your visibility instead.
  • Position is the order of first mention. In a numbered list that is a rank. In plain prose it only means you were mentioned earlier or later than the others.
  • It is an average over every answer in scope that named you.
Because it only counts answers that named you, its n is smaller than visibility’s. If no answer named you, there is no position to show.

Low sample

Position is always shown with its ± range and its n, and carries no low-sample badge, so check the n yourself: with fewer than 30 answers that name you behind it, read it as an early signal. See The ± band and n.

Where you land

An average can hide a spread. The Brands screen has a panel for Where you land when you are named, how often you are named first, second, third or later, but it is not computed yet. The panel says so rather than showing a shape that was not measured.

Reading it with visibility

Position only describes the answers you are in, so always read it beside visibility. A good position in very few answers means you lead when you appear but rarely appear. A worse position in many answers means you are on most shortlists without leading them.

Visibility

How often you are named at all.

Sentiment

How favourably you are described.
